The charity has three helicopters covering the North east, North Yorkshire and Cumbria.
One is based at Langwathby here in Cumbria, one in Teesside whilst the third is a spare for maintenance cover.
The organisation is fully financially supported only by charitable donations. It costs over £5.1M to run every year. In the financial year 16/17 the two active helicopters attended over 853incidents and each emergency flight costs on average £5,000.
This service has proved a vital link in the fast response to medical emergencies; particularly
important in a rural large county such as ours that gets over 15M visitors a year.
Besides a pilot a paramedic navigator and a hospital consultant are carried quickly to incidents. Following examination and stabilisation the patient can be quickly transferred to an appropriate hospital.
Keswick Rotary has been a major supporter of this very important and universally highly regarded charity.
